Bead weaving

Date

2020 - 2024

'Langit', meaning sky in Filipino, is a collection of hand‑beaded jewelry inspired by the celestial bodies the ancient Filipinos worshipped as deities. Part I takes inspiration from stories from the Visayan creation myth – how the sun, moon, and stars came to be. Part II is inspired by the Visayan deities who control the weather. Each piece is a tangible "illustration" that tells a story from our ancient ancestors, honoring their history, our culture and our heritage.

This was the collection that introduced me to bead weaving. Not having access to production of my jewelry line, Susanne Verallo, due to the 2020 lockdowns, I decided to experiment with the materials available to me at home: seed beads. Around this time I was also researching Filipino mythology, so I decided to bring the two together to create this collection.

My skills have greatly improved over the past 4 years, so I decided to give the collection an update in 2024 to highlight my growth as a jewelry artist. You'll find the original versions of these pieces below.
